When you go on any kind of diet, people want to know what you are doing and why? If you are a fat lady like me, well then they assume the why but they want to know how. I have tried lots of "diets" and most of them were the calorie counting low-fat variety. There is nothing wrong with these diets for some people. But for me they always left me hungry, cranky and I always fell off of them.
Recently though, I have read about and talked with many people who are doing low-carb or ketogenic diets. I have read as much as I could about it. I watched the movie The Magic Pill. I have listened to podcasts, such as 2 Keto Dudes. And I have read countless articles both for and against a low-carb diet. It's definitely not a one-size-fits all diet and no diet should be.
The low-carb diet turns the USDA food pyramid on it's head. Instead of grains and carbs, we load up on protein and especially fats. Not all fats are created equal, so I focus on the good fats. Here's a sample low-carb food pyramid.
On this diet you are eating about 10% or less carbs, 20% protein and 70% as fats. It's a sustainable diet for me, and my friend Eric who will also be contributing to this blog. and it is a way out of being overweight, or in my case obese.I started a low-carb diet (not 100% keto all the time) on June 14, 2018. As of today, I have lost 14 lbs. Let's see what happens next!
